Wash rice. Bring water to a boil in a pot on high flame. Add rice. When water resumes boiling, lower to medium heat and keep it gently boiling until reduced to below level of rice. Lower fire to minimum and cover pot tightly. Rice will be ready in about 12 minutes. This should be enough for 3-4 portions.
The proportion of water to rice may vary a little according to taste and the variety of rice used.
